CREATIVE  DIRECTION FOR CARTIER

For the 83rd Venice International Film Festival, where Cartier returned for its sixth year as Main Sponsor, a series of films and images on the moving image and the hands that make it. Narrated by Monica Bellucci and set to Vivaldi recomposed by Max Richter, the opening film traces a story of movement, from the origins of cinema to its long dialogue with the Maison. Two conversations bring the question back to practice: Chloé Zhao and cinematographer Łukasz Żal, collaborators on Hamnet, on the relationship between director and cinematographer and the visual language of contemporary cinema; and Luca Guadagnino, honored with the Cartier Glory to the Filmmaker Award as his Bertolucci documentary, Joie de Vivre, premiered. A photograph closes the series with a single object and its history: an "écharpe" necklace created by Cartier in 1950, given to Simone Signoret as a wedding gift the following year, and worn in Venice by Kate Mara.
